Representing The Real – Pitch
Representing The Real- 28th February

For our documentary pitch, we prepared in advance in a shared Google Doc. As most of our group was pitching, we each wrote out the key points for the section we were responsible for. I found it easiest to write out in prose/sentences what I wanted to say, then summarise it into key points to memorise – I definitely did not want to have any notes to read from or refer to, so that I had to properly learn my part of the pitch but still leave room for improvisation.
The experience of pitching our documentary, even if not in front of actual financiers, was still hugely beneficial. To be able to recreate pitching to an audience who were introduced to our idea in depth for the first time – and striving to do so in an engaging and succinct way – was definitely a learning opportunity.
When pitching for future projects I would like to try pitching as a pair or solo – as opposed to four people – to see how that dynamic would work, especially as that is industry practice. A personal goal I’ve set for myself is to become more comfortable and confident in public speaking, particularly as I know this will help me in my career and personal life. Hopefully I can find further opportunities to push myself outside of my comfort zone, because every time I do I realise it isn’t a big deal and is great for personal growth.
